Estimating Hydraulic Parameters of Aquifers Using Type Curve Analysis of Pumping Tests with Piecewise-Constant Rates

چکیده

Aquifer hydraulic parameters play a critical role in investigating various groundwater hydrology problems (e.g., depletion and transport), the Theis formula for constant-rate pumping tests is commonly used to estimate them. However, rate field usually varies with time due some factors, making classical model unsuitable accurate parameter estimation. To address this issue, we developed novel dimensionless-form analytical solution variable-rate involving piecewise-constant approximations variable rates. Analysis of time–drawdown curves revealed that first-step type curve was consistent curve. subsequent steps deviated from were associated first dimensionless inflection (t1,D), which depended on conductivity (K) specific storage (Ss) confined aquifers. On basis, new method estimating aquifer K Ss proposed by matching observed drawdown data series dependent t1,D. Furthermore, can handle recovery data. We applied site Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, China, analyzing four tests. The estimated using close agreement those calibrated via PEST. values further validated comparing them lithology-based results. In summary, geometric means 6.62 m/d 3.16 × 10−5 m−1 0.92 2.34 10−4 second aquifer.

Sensitivity analysis of pumping tests in non-uniform aquifers

An approach for better understanding of the physical implication of estimated aquifer parameters is demonstrated by analysing the pumping test data at Cottam in the Nottingham aquifer, UK. A sensitivity analysis showed that the area represented by the estimated parameters was much smaller than the area covered by the depression cone. After parameters are estimated, further research should be ca...

Hydraulic tests in highly permeable aquifers

[1] A semianalytical solution is presented for a mathematical model describing the flow of groundwater in response to a slug or pumping test in a highly permeable, confined aquifer. This solution, which is appropriate for wells of any degree of penetration and incorporates inertial mechanisms at both the test and observation wells, can be used to gain new insights into hydraulic tests in highly...

Pumping tests in nonuniform aquifers The radially asymmetric case

An analytical solution for the case of transient, pumping-induced drawdown in a nonuniform aquifer is presented. The nonuniform aquifer is conceptualized as a uniform matrix into which a disk of anomalous properties has been placed. The disk can be arbitrarily located with respect tothe pumping well. This solution can be used to develop considerable insight concerning the nature of drawdown i n...
